User Guide

Character Powers cards are an engaging, meaningful way to help children build reading skills and character vocabulary while learning about real, inspirational people. This guide is designed for parents and teachers.

CARD READING

Character Powers cards are designed to be read, discussed, and connected to real life. Use these simple steps to guide a meaningful reading experience with your class or child.

1️⃣ Introduce the inspirational figure
Show the card or image of the person. Briefly explain who they are, what the child may know about them, and the qualities that make them inspiring.

2️⃣ Ask for Character Powers
Invite students to share adjectives or positive traits that describe the person. Remind them there are no wrong answers. People have multiple Character Powers.

3️⃣ Read the card
Reading can be guided, shared, or independent.

4️⃣ Highlight the Character Power
Focus on the Character Power featured on the card. Discuss its definition, meaning, what it looks like in action, and how the person demonstrated it.

5️⃣ Use the Power Talk
Each Character Powers card includes a short Power Talk question to spark reflection and conversation. After reading, invite students to share their thoughts and personal connections.

6️⃣ Read the cards daily, weekly, or monthly
Explore new cards at your own pace. Some teachers use one card each morning to start the day with a positive focus, while others choose a weekly or monthly spotlight.
